Paper thin skin.

Poetry A field of soft white cotton grass in a backdrop of green rolling hills. All kissed in the golden warm sunlight

We want steel cut skin
The kind that don’t feel
Efficiency above all else
Ignore our essence

Oh, if we did embrace..
our soft
paper thin skin.
Our sensitivities..
like puffs of cotton seeds
floating
with only
the softest sigh
of warm Spring..

How much more in tune
we would be to each other
Nature
The seasons
The shifting of the stars
The oracles whispered in the sands.

Any that bleeds
Bleeds the whole.
How we would scramble
to hold each other up
to seal a broken twig
to bury a dead rat
to wipe a tear gently..

To listen like drinking the words of God
to love like the last gasp of air
to feel deeply the pleasures of Life
sorrow, grief, joy and awe..

    1. Yeah…I would think a lot of people dream it too but pushed away as naivety

      1. If only we could make everyone believers in that world. What do you think it would take?

        1. A massive kind of shock to the numbing…like being pushed to the edge to finally be aware of the edge both personally and collectively. It’s sad…but we learn once we experience our own folly…It’s why I think history is the kind guardian that warns us and yet waits for us to make the mistake then shows us the way out or trusts us to make a different choice collectively with it’s wisdom of those who lived and passed. Maybe it’s why we write poems or record events…warnings, learning and growing the nature of being human to something more that brings out even more from the world around us. Something truly beautiful..
          Like I said, naive XD

  4. This is so beautiful:

‘We want steel cut skin’ contrasted with

    ‘Oh, if we did embrace..
    our soft
    paper thin skin’

I think that’s how humanity lets itself down. We try to pretend we’re machines without living and sensitive souls. This poem really moved me.

  5. Turning 80 in September … at this point, I have naturally paper soft skin … which took decades to evolve. I fear time is running out for mankind. Great write ….

    1. Oh! Mine’s on September too. I think… we have all the time we need, even for each individual however long/short…it’s how or where we really want to let it flow from us till it’s Time, yeah?
And your paper thin skin is a full stretching of a whole life uniquely yours still growing contained within you…it’s a wealth of you

      Thank youu

  6. A stunning write. Humanity seems to have hardened with technology, greed, and desensitization via media. My opinion. I wish we all had paper thin skin. The world would be a much kinder place.
