blue butterfly

i had asked for you, love, like a child’s dream, a fairytale on the wings of a blue butterfly, i had asked for you, in those dreamy dust motes over my math notebook; i had asked for you through every breath taken, every tear shed, every inflicted pain; i had asked for you, and in every asking; it was you, love, who held the stick that thrashed my skin
